I am really struggling to get much sleep in the hospital. Although Sandton Mediclinic has a great pediatric ward set up specially so moms can stay over (I honestly can't even imagine what it must be like in hospitals where you are not allowed to stay the night) I'm still struggling to get any sleep. We have been blessed and placed in a private room and there is a sleeper chair in the room where I can sleep next to my son's bed. Although it is not the most comfortable bed it's really quite serviceable.
The real problem is that the nurses (who are only doing their job) come in every hour to two hours to do something. Every time they wake me or both of us up to do something; give medication, ask if he needs medication, ask me to give him medication that he really doesn't need to take during the night (thrush medicine for example) and my favorite ..... taking his temperature and blood pressure.
And so sleep eludes me. Between the emotional and physical exhaustion I am feeling worn out. I just keep reminding myself that we are blessed to have medical aid so we can afford a private hospital and good (all be it sleep interrupting) medical care.
