Done Now

Curious George has developed many Curious Georgisms over the last month as his speech comes into its own. Each day he adds new words or phrases to his repertoire and he has truly become a little parrot. The funniest thing is that some of the words/phrases don't always sound 100% like the actual words but you can understand what he's saying. This is such an exciting time for us as parents as we start to see our little one's personality really shine through.

Right now one is his favourite phrases is "done now". It comes out almost as one word. He uses it for everything. When he wants you to do something with him and you are doing something else he tells you "done now" which is your cue that he wants your attention. He uses it when he has had enough of a game or a TV show. He uses it when he wants to change activity or leave. When his sister was born he told us that she was "shut" in mommy's tummy but she's "done now" (I loved this one). And of course he uses it at the dinner table when he doesn't want to eat what he's been given or he wants to escape from the table.

We often require him to sit and wait for mommy and daddy to finish their dinner because otherwise he only takes one bite of his food and then declare he's "done now". So dinner conversation in our house usually revolves around CG asking 100 times "mama done now, dada done now?" until we finally say "yes we are done now". In an effort to make things less exhausting for ourselves (and to teach good manners of course) Super Dad taught him that when we put our knife and fork together then we are done.

This worked brilliantly and for a few nights and we were only asks a few times if we were "done now" - what bliss. Then last night while trying desperately to coax him to eat some of his dinner and he was saying "done now, done now" as usual. Then out of no where we were bested by our two year old.

On the 6th or 7th time of telling us "done now" and us replying that "no, he hadn't even tried any food and he was most certainly not done", our son smartly placed his fork and spoon together on his plate and said with a triumphant smile "DONE NOW". After being totally floored by his ability to reason out the problem at hand we both had a good laugh because ........ how could we argue with that.
